Bone Awl/The Rita Split

Released on Klaxon in 2006.  Recorded in 2005.  Magnificent CanAm pairing, The Rita delivers thick walls of static noise that shift like tectonic plates.  In between the sheets of sound Bone Awl supply their brand of raw and vicious black metal.  The concept is brilliant, with BA's songs forcing themselves through the maelstrom that The Rita provides.  A "split" in the best possible sense.

A:  I feel tension/Black Beasts/With my hands  13:41

B:  You're getting more/What are you waiting for?  14:35

The Frogs "My Daughter the Broad"

Matador Records 1996

The brothers Dennis and Jimmy Flemion formed The Frogs in the early 80s.  Their destructo rock sounds coupled with some of the best lyrics in the biz make this one a winner.  Just a warning, nothing is sacred on this album.

Endless Boogie "Volume 2"

2005 Mound Duel
Top Dollar, The Governor, Grease Control, and Memories from Reno bring out a heavy burn that's sure to make you lose your mind.

Express Rising "Express Rising" (Jeux de Ficelle)

Released in 2002 on the Memphix label, Dante Carfagna put this one together, and it's a monster.  Somber yet uplifting, with big beats and sound bites that run around and chase each other. Neighborhood and bird themes are repeated throughout.

Mr. Carfagna also produced some of Professor Griff's solo work in the early 90s.  He is currently running the Ohio Soul  Recordings site that is archiving soul, funk, and R & B records made in Ohio after 1965.
